Home Made and Healthy

While, literally, stumbling on the internet I found this recipe (which came from another unknown cooking blog) for some home made granola bars.  They are packed with greatness and taste just as good.  You will probably already have all the ingredients on your house, with maybe the exception of Flax Seed Mill.  It only took me about 10 minutes to finish a double batch.
While great for everyday eating (be careful, kinda high in calories) these would be a great energy filled snack for the trail.  You can rap them individually in wax paper or plastic wrap.  If you felt really ambitious you could even make them on the trail, just mix all the dry ingredients at home and then use your stove and pot to melt the wets, and mix in the pot (they won't come out in bar form but could be rolled).
Best thing about them is the kids probably won't know they have all that protein and extra nutrients (see the nutritional facts on above link).  Second best thing is you can alter them to your liking.  Not everyone in our house likes raisins so we used dried cranberries.  I plan on experimenting with orange zest and other variations of dried fruits.
